Snowy conditions have led to class cancellations across Prince Edward Island Thursday morning, following a night of blowing and drifting snow due to strong northerly to westerly winds.
All Public Schools Branch and French-language board schools will remain closed for the day.
UPEI will be opening at noon. Holland College will also be opening at 12 p.m., except for the Georgetown Centre which will remain closed for the day.
French childcare centres in Rollo Bay, Charlottetown, Rustico, Summerside and Evangeline will be opening at 10:30 a.m.
Island Montessori Academy in Stratford and Cornwall will remain closed for the day.
Classes at Study Abroad Canada will be delayed until 10:30 a.m.
Service delays
A number of health services in Prince Edward Island have delayed openings or cancelled appointments this morning, such as the public health nursing offices in Charlottetown, Souris and Montague. Islanders are encouraged to visit the Health P.E.I. website for the latest updates.
All provincial civil service offices Island-wide will be opening at 10:30 a.m.
All Service Canada Centres on P.E.I. will delay opening until 10:30 a.m., with an update at 9:30 a.m.
Charlottetown City Hall and its administrative offices will open today at 9:30 a.m. Another update will be provided by 8:30 a.m.
Island Waste Management Inc. will only be doing cart pick-ups in Summerside Thursday. All other Waste Watch pick-ups move to Saturday, Feb. 1.
Provincial Credit Union’s branches in Tignish, Alberton, O’Leary, Tyne Valley, Wellington, Kensington and North Rustico will be operating on a one-hour delay.
Road conditions
Roads across the province are snow-covered. Visibility is poor in Kings County due to the blowing snow, and just fair in the rest of the province, and there are icy patches in Queens and Prince counties.
